After you have experienced a few practices and have decided to join, you can start your membership with the Pittsburgh Paddlefish by paying Paddlefish team dues and by joining Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA).

Paddlefish team dues:

  • Team dues are $160 for the summer on-the-water season, and $80 for the winter indoor season. Dues can be paid in installments and are prorated for members who join after the start of the season.
  • We have a scholarship fund available for anyone who needs help in covering the Paddlefish dues and/or competition costs. Students (including graduate students) are automatically considered for scholarships at a rate of 50% the Paddlefish dues and a subsidy of race registration fees.
  • Team dues can be paid by check, made out to the Pittsburgh Paddlefish, and submitted to the team treasurer at practice.
  • Questions about Paddlefish dues or scholarships can be directed to the team treasurer.
  • Upon payment of Paddlefish dues, the team membership coordinator will ask for your contact information and birth date. You will receive weekly team emails and be eligible to request full member access to the website (go to “Log in”, click “Register”).

Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA) membership:

  • All Paddlefish must be members of TRRA at the boat-and-facility level. Adult memberships are $385/yr, or approx $33/mo. Student memberships (including graduate students) are $215/yr or approx $19/mo. Family memberships are also available. Membership is non-contractual (you can stop your TRRA membership at anytime if you stop dragon boating) and payment plans are available.
  • Membership gives you access to TRRA’s weight rooms, ergs, and all boats including dragon boats, kayaks and outrigger canoes.
  • TRRA membership can be initiated online at www.threeriversrowing.org/MembershipInformation.html.
  • Questions about TRRA membership or their online club management system can be directed to Rick Brown at rickbrown@threeriversrowing.org or 412-231-TRRA.

FAQ’s about joining the Paddlefish

  • Do I need special equipment?
No special equipment is needed. You may choose to buy your own PFD and paddle, but you don’t have to! TRRA has many sizes of paddles and PFDs that you can use.
  • What if I can’t come to all practices or races?
We ask that everyone try to attend, on average, two practices per week. But we all have busy lives and understand that you can’t make every practice. No one is expected to attend all race events. If traveling is a problem, you can choose to just compete locally.
  • When and where do you compete?
In summer and early fall, we compete on the water in places such as Toronto, DC, Pittsburgh, Florida, Ithaca, and Philadelphia. In winter, we compete indoors on ergs in Pittsburgh and New York City.
